My name is Kimberly Pomares and I own Courthouse Academy. It all began when I went in search of a preschool education for my daughter. I knew what I wanted. I couldn’t find it, so I went out and created it. I opened the school in 1992, renting a space in a church. The school started very small, serving fewer than twenty-five 2, 3, and 4 year-olds and has grown over the succeeding years. I developed a greater understanding of the importance of the preschool years after researching early childhood studies. I concluded that it was imperative to provide the highest quality experiences during the early childhood years.

My vision grew and I decided to create the only Spanish Immersion school in Virginia Beach.

In the Spanish Immersion classes one teacher speaks and teaches in English. The second teacher in the classroom speaks and teachers in Spanish. The education and welfare of children continues to be my passion. I want our children to become well-rounded, productive citizens. Becoming bilingual is part of my passion. It affords these children greater opportunities in the future. I know this because I have two grown daughters who are fluent in Spanish. Both are world travelers, have worked abroad, and now both work for an international company. None of which would have happened without Spanish.
